What’s That Stuff On My Roof?
Contrary to popular opinion, that “stuff” on your roof is usually not dirt or grime. It’s actually a species of algae called Gloeocapsa Magma. That’s right, there’s something growing on and feeding off of your roof, and the humid and warm conditions in Cincinnati only help to accelerate it.
It might be hard to believe, but the outbreak on your shingles began when algae spores, floating through the air, landed on your roof and took hold. They then began to multiply and feed off of the limestone filler in your shingles, and eventually became visible to you, though you may have noticed only a small patch at first. No doubt you’ve now seen that the situation is getting worse, and it will continue to spread across your roof unabated unless you have it professionally cleaned.
Keep in mind, however, that not all roof cleaning companies are the same.
